How to Make Reformer Pilates a Habit: Building a Routine That Actually Lasts

Starting Reformer Pilates is the easy part.

The harder part? Keeping it going when life gets busy.

Work, family, school runs, holidays, social plans… before you know it, the routine you were excited about has disappeared.

But here’s the good news: you don’t need more motivation.

You need a routine that fits your life.

At RIVU Club, we believe Pilates should be something you look forward to, not another thing on your to-do list. So, if you want to make Reformer Pilates a habit that actually lasts, start here.

1. Stop waiting for motivation

Motivation comes and goes.

Some weeks you’ll feel excited to get on the reformer. Other weeks, you’ll really not feel like it.

That’s normal.

The key is to make Pilates part of your routine, rather than something you do when you feel motivated.

Think routine, not motivation.

2. Find a time that works for you

The “best” time to do Pilates is the time you can actually stick to.

Maybe that’s an early morning class before work.

Maybe it’s lunchtime.

Maybe it’s an evening class when everything else is done.

Or perhaps Sunday morning becomes your weekly reset.

Choose a time that works with your life, not against it.

3. Start with one or two classes a week

You don’t need to be on the reformer five times a week to make progress.

Start with one class.

If that feels good, build to two.

The goal is to create something you can maintain — because consistency will always beat an unrealistic routine.

4. Put Pilates in your diary

If it’s in your diary, it’s much harder to forget.

Book your class. Add it to your calendar. Treat it like any other appointment.

But this one is different.

It’s an appointment with yourself.

5. Create a routine around your class

Habits become easier when they have a familiar rhythm.

Perhaps you go straight from the school run.

Maybe you book your lunchtime class and make it your break from work.

Or perhaps Sunday Pilates becomes your way to start the week feeling good.

Find your rhythm and repeat it.

The less you have to think about it, the easier the habit becomes.

6. Make showing up easy

Sometimes it’s not the Pilates we struggle with — it’s everything around it.

What are you going to wear?
Where will you park?
Will you be late?
What do you need to bring?

Remove as much friction as you can.

Pack your grip socks. Know your route. Give yourself enough time.

The easier it is to show up, the more likely you are to keep showing up.

7. Find a class you genuinely enjoy

If you dread your workout, you’re probably not going to stick with it.

Find movement that makes you feel good.

At RIVU, our different Reformer classes give you the opportunity to find the level, pace and style that suits you.

Because when you enjoy something, consistency becomes much easier.

8. Don’t give up because you missed a week

Life happens.

You might miss a class. You might go away. You might have a busy week.

That doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

One missed class doesn’t undo your progress.

Simply book your next one and start again.

The goal isn’t to never miss.

The goal is to keep coming back.

9. Pay attention to how you feel

One of the best ways to build a lasting habit is to notice the difference it makes.

Maybe you feel stronger.

Maybe your posture feels better.

Maybe you’re moving with more confidence.

Or perhaps you simply leave class feeling like you’ve had an hour to switch off from everything else.

Notice that feeling.

That’s your reason to keep going.

Your routine doesn’t need to be perfect

You don’t need the perfect schedule.

You don’t need to be incredibly motivated.

And you certainly don’t need to do Pilates every day.

You just need to find a routine that works for you.

Choose a class. Put it in your diary. Show up. Enjoy how you feel afterwards.

Then do it again.

And again.

That’s how a class becomes a habit.

And a habit becomes part of your lifestyle.
